- Your password is only used to sign in to TeachAssist for you. We never store it on our servers.
- We don't sell your data, show ads, or use advertising or analytics cookies.
- You can delete your data any time in Settings → Delete my data, or by emailing us.
Who we are
TeachAssist Dashboard is built and run by Intelligent Automations, an independent business in Markham, Ontario. It is not made by, or connected to, the York Region District School Board (YRDSB) or the TeachAssist Foundation. Contact: info@intelligentautomations.ca.
What happens when you sign in
You type your YRDSB student number and password. The app sends them over an encrypted connection (HTTPS) to our sign-in server, which passes them to TeachAssist (ta.yrdsb.ca) to fetch your marks, the same way your browser would. Our server does not save your password, and it is never written to our logs.
To keep you signed in, this browser saves your student number and a locked copy of your password that only our sign-in server can open. Your actual password is not saved on your device. The locked copy works only with our app and only for your student number. It stops working after 90 days without using the app, and no later than 180 days after you last typed your password. Signing out cancels it on our server too, so a copied version can't be reused. Anyone using your unlocked device could still open the app and see your marks, so sign out on shared phones or computers.
What we store
- On your device: your marks, settings, theme, dreams, goals, teacher notes and grade history. This stays in your browser.
- Cloud backup: your dreams, goals, last-known marks, and the first name you choose to enter (optional) are backed up so they survive a new phone. The backup is not labelled with your student number. It uses a one-way code made from it, so the stored data can't be traced back to you by itself.
- Security records: to stop people guessing passwords, our server counts wrong passwords for each student number (stored only as a one-way code) and each network (IP) address. These counts are deleted automatically after 2 hours. When you sign out, we keep a random ID of that login for up to 181 days so it can't be reused; it contains nothing about you.
- Not stored: your password, your name from TeachAssist, or anything about your browsing.
Services we use
- Cloudflare hosts the app and the sign-in server.
- Supabase stores the cloud backup described above.
- Google Fonts, cdnjs and OpenStreetMap deliver fonts, the school map library and map tiles. Like any website, they can see your IP address when these files load.
No ads, analytics or tracking cookies
The app shows no ads and uses no analytics or advertising cookies. Your settings, saved marks and the locked copy of your sign-in are kept in your browser's storage on this device.
Students under 18
The app is made for high school students. We only collect what's needed to show your marks, we never sell your data, and we don't show ads. If you're a parent or guardian with questions, email us.
Your choices
- Sign out in Settings to remove your student number and the locked copy of your password from this device, and cancel that saved login.
- Delete my data in Settings permanently deletes your cloud backup and everything the app saved on that device, then signs you out. See Delete your data for details.
- Can't sign in? Email info@intelligentautomations.ca with your student number and we'll delete your cloud backup within 30 days.
- You can always use the official TeachAssist site instead.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update the date at the top. Big changes will be shown in the app.
